Copy Moved-How To Change A Wheel Bolt
Changing out a set of lug nuts on a car or truck can be simple – just remove the old ones with a lug wrench and put the new lug nets on with the wrench. If you’re using wheel locks, just attach the key to the end of the wrench.However, if you’ve switched to a vehicle that uses Wheel Bolts instead of lug nuts, you might not know what to do. And while you might not want to admit it, looking for a little help might be a good idea. After all, it’s better to apply a little research and avoid making a costly or dangerous mistake. While a majority of US cars use traditional lug nuts, many import cars – including big automakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen as well as smaller companies like Citroen – use wheel bolts, also called lug bolts, instead.
To get started, remove the old Wheel Bolt. If you’re having trouble removing a rusted bolt, try tapping the bolt with a hammer to loosen it or to break it off. If that doesn’t work, try using a lubricant like WD-40 on the area. If that also fails, try using an impact wrench or heating the bolt with a propane torch. If you break the bolt, you can tap the old bolt out before inserting the new one.
Rotate the wheel hub to a spot where you can easily insert the Wheel Bolt from behind. If you don’t have a tool to help you install the bolt, use a lug nut to draw the inserted wheel bolt through from the front. Be sure to use washers in conjunction with your wheel bolt to make it less likely that the bolt will loosen with use.
